I Dream of Showerheads Print E-mail

Lately I have had quite a few friends complain about their showerheads - wishing they had the perfect showerhead.  I always smile and say, "I bet I know where you can get one!"  They are always surprised at just how easy it is to change a showerhead, and what a big difference it really makes!  Even my friend who are still renters have switched out their showerheads - all you need is a wrench and some plumber's tape.  But where to begin?  There are so many showerheads on the market, how do you know which one will work the best for you?

The first question I ask is, "What do you want from your showerhead?  Do you want a steady, strong spray, or would you prefer a showerhead that has multiple functions, such as massage, rain, etc.?"  Lately I have been able to ask if they would like a low-flow showerhead to save water, but as a woman with thick hair, these really don't do the job for me.  Here are some of my favorite shower heads that I recommend to my friends:

  •  For those that want a strong spray and don't care about functions, I recommend a Speakman-style showerhead.  These showerheads have either 8 or 6 jets, and give out the maximum amount of pressure your shower will allow.  You can adjust the sprays, giving you anywhere from a sharper spray to more of a deluge (technically speaking, the more you open the sprays, the more air is added to the water being released).  The one I recommend most, and have used in the past, is the Rohl 8-Jet Adjustable Showerhead.
  • I personally like showerheads with multiple functions, and I actually use them.  When I am in the shower and just want to take a few minutes to relax, I turn my Grohe Relexa Rustic  handshower to the massage function.  I chose to use the handshower instead of the stationary shower head for two reasons:  1) It makes cleaning my tub/shower much easier, and 2) I am completely showerhead-spoiled and like to change them on a regular basis.  It is much easier to unscrew and change out a handshower than a stationary shower head (no wrench required!)
  • Another great multi-fuction showerhead that I have used in the past is the Hansgrohe Raindance S 150 AIR 3-Jet Handshower .  The Raindance AIR showerheads use AIR-injection technology, which makes the drops of water much fuller, giving you more of a soaking shower while still giving you great pressure.  It worked great for me, but not as great for a friend of mine with long, extra thick curly hair.
  • If you are environmentally savvy and wish to use a low-flow showerhead, Kohler is the brand to choose.  Kohler has many different models of water saving showerheads and handshowers that give you at least a  20% reduction in water usage.
Still confused?  Feel free to write with any questions, or come into one of our showrooms to see even more showerhead options.
