A couple visited our Yorktown showroom last weekend to select plumbing fixtures for their bathroom renovation project. When asked if they were going to need tile for the project, they replied that they had already selected their tile at another store and had put down a deposit. They did not know that Best sold tile and was impressed when they saw our tile gallery. Unfortunately, this is something we hear fairly often. When you think of Best, you automatically think PLUMBING. Best has had a tile department for the last 9 years, with our tile selection growing tremendously in the past 2 years. While our tile used to be geared toward builders and was beige, beige and more beige, we have expanded to include metal, glass, hand crafted ceramics, porcelain and stone at all different price points.

Although the tile selected from the other store was beautiful, it didn’t match the plumbing fixtures that the couple fell in love with. The color scheme that they originally planned on using changed once they selected vanities and countertops. Fortunately, they were able to get their tile deposit back and found everything they were looking for at Best.

This scenario reminds me of shopping for an outfit for an important event (sorry gentlemen, you will have to use your imagination here). Let’s say you need a dress, shoes, accessories and maybe even new makeup. It’s so much easier visiting a department store and working with one sales associate who can help you coordinate the outfit and make suggestions along the way. It’s also more convenient if you need to make a return or exchange. With that said, take into consideration the following points when renovating:

  • Figure out what kind of design theme you want in your bathroom and choose products and tile accordingly.
  • Vanities and countertops come in many different colors and finishes. You will want these to work with the tile you select.
  • Don’t get caught up on the metal finishes of the plumbing fixtures (chrome, nickel, brass, etc.). Sometimes it makes sense to wait until after you have selected the tile, vanity and countertop to better coordinate the color scheme.
  • Don’t forget to coordinate the lighting! Bathroom lighting can come in many forms from sconces to vent fans with a light built right in.
  • Accessories, such as towel rings, towel bars, toilet paper holders, robe hooks, soap dishes, etc. are the jewelry of any bathroom and should match the overall theme of the room. Each faucet line has coordinating accessories in matching finishes, which makes it very easy to make sure they complement the space.
