The Perfect Kitchen Sink

When renovating a kitchen, there are so many things to think about – appliances, cabinetry, lighting, etc. But what about that little thing called the kitchen sink? Today’s kitchen sinks are anything but boring. From single to triple basin, stainless to cast iron, contemporary to farm sink, the possibilities are endless! Many homeowners are also installing two sinks in the kitchen; one to wash the dishes, and another to prep food while cooking or hold ice while entertaining. Let’s talk a little bit about the different sink options:

  • STAINLESS STEEL– First created for commercial use, stainless steel sinks are the most sought after sinks on the market. Available in a number of shapes and sizes, these sinks offer sharp corners, funky shapes and extreme durability.
  • CAST IRON – Kohler has a myriad of sinks made of cast iron. Cast iron is made of over 90% recycled material, and will last forever. Available in over 20 colors, these sinks are a great place to add a splash of color to your kitchen, whether you like red, blue or orange. My favorite cast iron innovation is the Kohler Smart Divide™ sink. These sinks are genius. They are double basin sinks, but the divider is at half height, making it easy to wash large pots and pans as well as baking sheets.

  • APRON-FRONT SINKS – Made out of stainless, copper, cast iron or fireclay, these sinks really make a statement in the kitchen. The only thing to keep in mind is that your base cabinet has to be made especially for an apron sink, so they are better for complete remodels or new builds.

  • FIRECLAY – Fireclay is similar to the old porcelain sinks, but is a much stronger material. These sinks generally come in white or biscuit, and are more traditional in style.

Now that you have the kitchen sink under control, don’t forget a coordinating faucet, water purifier, instant hot, garbage disposal and tile backsplash! Don’t worry; we have all of those too.
