Have you ever been to a nice hotel or spa and said to yourself, “I want a shower like this in MY home”? Well with all of the new products and technology, it is easy to make this dream come true! Now you can have your favorite music playing, lights that change color, and a deluge of water even Mother Nature would envy - all in your own home.
The first thing I like to ask a customer is “What kind of experience are you looking for?” Do you want to awaken all of your senses by using chromatherapy, music and steam (you can use scented oils for aromatherapy)? Do you want to feel like you are standing outside in a rainstorm? The options are endless.
So you have decided what you want from your dream shower – now what? Showers consist of multiple components: valves, outlets, shower heads and tile, just to name a few. It can seem overwhelming, but not to worry! Your Best bath & tile professional will be able to make the process as simple as possible. To avoid headaches and ensure that the process goes smoothly, take a look at some of the tips below to get you started.
- Measure: The first step in planning your dream shower is measuring the space: wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling. Be sure to consider the location of room features like windows, doors and vents. Having these measurements will allow your Best bath & tile professional to give you a realistic idea of what will fit in your space.
- Layout: Once you have measured your space, consider sketching a rough layout. This will help you visualize your bathroom and make it easier to choose components. Are you using a corner or just one wall? Is the ceiling low enough to allow for an overhead shower? Will it work for two people at once? Your layout will help you answer these questions.
- Water heater: As a rule, assume that 75% of the water in a shower will be hot water. This means three showerheads flowing at 2.5 gallons per minute for 10 minutes would use approximately 56 gallons of hot water. Your contractor should be able to check the specs on your current water heater to make sure it can handle the capacity of your potential new shower.
Below are some of the amazing new technologies and components from Kohler that will help make your dream shower come to life.
- High-Tech Controls: A variety of high-tech amenities carry showers into the 21st century, and allow for a completely personalized showering experience. Kohler’s DTV™ shower system allows users to preset their own temperatures, as well as to control steam, lighting and sound components.
- Bodysprays: Bodysprays come in a variety of styles to fit everyone's needs. WaterTile™ bodysprays save space and create a sleek appearance by mounting flush against the wall, in both square and round designs. Other bodysprays offer multiple spray settings.
- Showerheads: Showerheads are all about experience, from pulsing blasts to gentle mists. You can even simulate enjoying the nature with showerheads that feel like rain.
- Handshowers: Whether you're sitting in the shower, washing your hair, or cleaning the walls, a handshower simplifies any activity by allowing you to move the water where it's needed. Many offer multiple spray options for both soothing and massaging experiences.
- Steam: A great addition to any dream shower, steam offers a luxurious spa experience with only a few extra components. My favorite time to use a steam shower is when I have a cold; I put Eucalyptus oil on the steam head and it clears my sinuses right up!
